Non-compliance with BPA, packaging, WEEE, REACH, RoHS and battery rules can be costly, and more rules are coming. A product with a circuit board needs EMC testing. Once it connects over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, it also needs radio approval and cybersecurity testing, and from December 2027 it comes under the Cyber Resilience Act. Small specialist manufacturers have limited resources, and a change in the rules is easy to miss. One missed change can stop a shipment or force a recall.
